So I’ve made it to the Roundhouse for the annual Kerrang! tour and it’s really encouraging to see so many British bands on the bill. I’ve known the My Passion guys for a few years and whether you dig what they’re doing or not, you cannot deny that they work incredibly hard. I know they’ve sacrificed a hell of a lot to get this far and it’s great to see everything coming together for them. Tonight they rock it!

Asking Alexandria; Imagine a twisted ‘free for all’ mosh-pit between Enter Shikari, Attack Attack, and Bless The Fall. At least then you’ll be scratching the surface of pinning down the bands sound…
Yes. The British outfit have possibly one of the most bizarre sounds I’ve heard, yet it’s not a bad thing by any means. First song Alerion bursts in with the whole techno vibe coupled with metal guitar riffs, meaning that the ravers can rave, and the metal-heads can either mosh or do that thing were they deny they like the band but secretly they have lead singer Danny’s picture in their purses – n’aww.

An enthusiastic guitar & drum duo catapult us straight into the action faster then Katie Price’s exit at the recent VTA awards. ‘Hit And Hope‘ the first track of unsigned rockers This Years Winner Is, perhaps has to be one of the most up-beat energetic songs I’ve ever heard; a positive backed by a couple of negatives.

The name, albeit a little ‘controversial’ is somewhat captivating…. perhaps derived from the sign of a dodgy backstreet funeral parlor, or even more bizarrely the name of a new theme park ride? Yet there really is no form of abnormal back story, and the name was in fact inherited from a song by ‘Planes Mistaken for Stars’.

The mind processes an endless amount of thoughts per second, yet only the one thing which you deem to be the most significant and conspicuous forms your current trail of thought. Consequently it does make me wonder how so many people had the same thought to buy an array of overpriced fake jewellery, and the abhorrent trend of ‘Nike joggers’ tucked into a pair of rancid, lime-green socks.

Many good bands experiment with genres other than their own from time to time, right? Yes, and it is with this seemingly taut ideology in mind that I feel justified in allowing RockStopScene to experiment in its own way. Here is my review – if you could call it that – of the ’somewhat’ recent Movie: 2012.

Hello, welcome! Pull up a chair and sit down.. but first a word of advice: ‘Never get a Wolf’s attention by pulling it’s tail‘. The reason why my friend is not because a Twilight fanatic will think you’re trying to viciously destroy one of their ‘favouritez charactarz!!1!’ Nor is it in any way related to the fate that poor Little Red Riding Hood is to meet in a sequel. In fact it’s the ever so epic, and effulgent EP of ‘Shadows Chasing Ghosts‘ a band quickly on the verge of becoming a household name.

Unfortunately being a music critic comes with one major flaw; having to be unbiased.
*Sigh* So lets get the good out of the way first. Trace, Mason, and Anthony are probably earning more in a few years then I will in my life. So I have to hand it to them they definitely know what they’re doing in this industry, well their PR and label do at least anyway.
Now on to the ‘proper’ part of the review.

First albums are somewhat similar to the first line of a review. Their role is pivotal, and they are really hard to conceptualise. But, luckily for Mayday Parade, their debut: A Lesson in Romantics was great. Let’s not beat around the bush, what made that album special was the song writing. The lyrics were on the better side of pup-punk standard, and the instrumentation was unique enough to separate the band from the pack – ALIR is an album that defined Mayday Parade and gave them some well deserved exposure. Somewhat unfortunately though, the chief song writer for the band – Jason Lancaster – left shortly after the album was released, essentially draining everything that made the band great, and leaving them as a sort of – ‘empty shell’.

Trying to reach the venue of Birmingham’s NIA is like trying to play ‘Through The Fire and The Flames’ on Guitar Hero, on expert, in a darkened room, backwards… Pretty damn time consuming! After a journey spanning double the time it should have, having your ticket checked multiple times at different stages of entry as if your ticket’s magically going to change to fraudulent between each point, and being told water has to be left behind in favour of their ‘over-priced drinks’ you can imagine it’s not the best way to start your night of rocking.
