(This post is going to be updated as more songs are added to the EP, so to start with only one song will be in this post.)

My idea of good music is that which is profound; intellectual, elaborate guitar riffs that send shivers down spines, or even through powerful lexical choices, yet this isn’t enough to impress me on its own. A band which is uncommercialized, raw talent and passion whether pleasing a legion of fans (MCR – Black Parade, anyone?) or a few of the ‘regular pub goers’ shows pure dedication and love for their job, and not the gross over-sized pay packet at the end.

Myspace; the oyster of the ‘un-signed Indie scene’, day upon day dedicated bands slave away sending the constant: ‘Hey how are you’s’ and the ‘Thanks for the add like our music???!!’ Is this really the way for bands to about advertising their music? The answer is no, it isn’t.

The reason, aside from the over-used punctuation, is the fact people are getting sick and tired of reading the same copy and pasted message day-in and day-out. Of course we all know you have the right intention, the monotonous drag of visiting what seems like the same ‘Charlie Chaotic’ profile every day must get tiresome – (Hope you’re all loving the return of Charlie since my ‘Metro Station’ post by the way). Yet there’s other more effective ways out there for bands to advertise….

Friends.

A one word, simple answer to every band’s problem is all it needs. If utilized to their full capacity you can actually become a viral-phenomenon. I’m hoping you’re not inferring that I mean to ‘use your friends’. Not at all, but take a band like ‘My Passion‘ for example, regardless of whether you like them or not, they’ve actually inflated into a very successful British rock band, and that is for one reason, the way they treat their friends; as to them both fans and friends are the same thing.

This all links together to form the article I’m writing today regarding the currently in progress ‘Lies & Love’ EP being produced by Raven on Guitar, and Jay on bass. The connection is formed via their first song ‘In Your Face‘, posted only two days ago, the song has already managed to notch up around 100 views from friends alone. Consider this in layman’s terms, for example: ‘Raven’ sends the link to his friend, who then sends it to his friend the other side of the country, who’s then impressed and forwards it too…. Anyway, you get the idea; it’s an extremely good marketing structure that I’m glad the band has decided to embrace.

‘In Your Face’ itself  jumps straight in with a strong, tenacious guitar riff that alerts the listener that the track is going to be extremely ‘Avenged Sevenfold‘ influenced, as we all know ‘A7X’ are renowned for their complex, ostentatious, fancy guitar work, and it’s great we can see similar things within this song. Throughout the intro a drum cymbal can be heard, slightly simple and something slightly more ‘powerful’ would of worked wonders; double bass pedal would of sounded amazing with the guitar work!

Eventually the bass joins and pretty swiftly enters a solo (51-1:10 seconds) that actually adds a-lot of the depth to the track. RATM as you may know are renowned for their bassist and his solo’s so if similar things are to be expected on the ‘Lies & Love’ EP then ‘things can only get better’ (you’re all singing that in your head now, aren’t you?)

The guitar rejoins us with a whammy bar entrance; extremely clever and unexpected, gradually leading us back into the starting guitar-riff with some more impressive whammying, change of pitch, and more hidden gems. The break-down at the end of the song is short-lived, but it actually works as the pic slide seems to finish things off perfectly to lead us on to the next track…

From one track it’s hard to forecast exactly what to expect, although I can derive that we should expect some pretty great stuff. Of course some of the drum work needs refining, and the addition of vocals is anticipated but it’s nothing too major.

Watch this space for more! And until then check out their song!:
